Summer camp and missing gear go together. Somewhere between 40 activities, eight cabin mates, and four weeks on Hunter Lake, things get left behind. Here's what to do if your daughter comes home short a sweatshirt, a water bottle, or something that matters more than that.
What to Do If You Realize Something Is Missing
Email the camp office at info@wehakeecampforgirls.com as soon as you notice. Include your daughter's name, her cabin, her session dates, and a description of what's missing. If we locate the item, we'll mail it to you, you'll just cover the shipping fee.
How Long Are Items Held?
Items remaining in lost and found after checkout day are held for 48 hours. After that, they're donated to a charity organization. The sooner you reach out, the better.
This is also a good reason to label everything before camp. Every piece of clothing, every water bottle, every sleeping bag. Labeled items are much easier to match to the right camper, and much more likely to make it home in the first place.
The Best Prevention: Label Everything
The packing list Camp WeHaKee sends before each session includes a reminder to label all items with your daughter's name. Iron-on labels, a laundry marker, or stick-on labels all work. It takes an hour before camp to save a headache after.
Especially worth labeling: sweatshirts, rain jackets, water shoes, sleeping bags, pillowcases, and anything that looks like it could belong to any of the other seven girls in the cabin.
