Flying to Camp WeHaKee: Everything You Need to Know

If your daughter is flying to camp this summer, she’ll be heading through the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP). It’s the only airport we partner with, and from there, she’ll hop on our supervised bus for a direct ride straight to camp. We’ve put together this guide to help you navigate the process so her travel day is as easy as possible!

To ensure every camper’s journey is seamless and safe, we strongly urge our families to book through our dedicated travel partner, Travel One Inc. While you might be tempted to book on your own, Travel One specializes in camp travel and is intimately familiar with our specific flight windows. They’re invaluable if a flight is delayed or canceled, often solving travel hiccups before you even know they’ve happened! Even better, they usually find better fares than booking direct.

Booking Your Flights

To make sure your daughter can catch our camp shuttle, please ensure your flights stay within these windows. If you're working with Travel One, they'll handle this for you!

• Arrivals: Flights should land at MSP between 11:00am and 4:00pm Central.
• Departures: Flights should take off between 1:00pm and 4:00pm Central.

It’s really important to stay within these times because we aren't able to accommodate transportation for flights arriving or departing outside of these windows.

Flying as an Unaccompanied Minor (UM)

For campers age 14 and under, airlines require them to fly as Unaccompanied Minors. If your daughter is between 15 and 17, it’s totally up to you, but please let us know what you decide!

• How it works: A friendly WeHaKee staff member in uniform will meet her right at her arrival gate. On the way home, we’ll walk her through security and stay at the gate until her plane is safely in the air.
• The Details: You’ll need to pay the airline’s UM fees at least two weeks before she travels. The airline will also ask for the name of the person meeting her; we’ll send you those staff contact details about seven days before her flight.

Flying Without UM Status

If she isn't flying as a UM, our staff will be waiting for her at the baggage claim for her specific flight. On her way home, we’ll help her check her bags and get her to the right security line. Just keep in mind that without UM status, she’ll head through security and find her gate on her own.

Taking the Stress Out of Luggage

Before you pay those airline baggage fees, you might want to check out ShipCamps. They partner with FedEx, UPS, and DHL to ship gear from your front door directly to camp (and back again!). It’s often much cheaper than checking bags at the airport, and it means no waiting around at baggage claim.

Handling Unexpected Fees

Don't worry if any last-minute fees pop up at the airport, like overweight bags or UM charges. We’ll go ahead and cover those on the spot so your daughter can stay on schedule. We'll simply add the amount to your transportation balance and charge the payment method we have on file.

How do I add flight transportation to our registration?
