Family Camp at WeHaKee is exactly what it sounds like, but it might be a little different from what you’d first imagine. It isn’t just a typical campground with parking spots and fire pits. It's our full Camp WeHaKee property on Hunter Lake in Winter, Wisconsin, opened up specifically for families for five days in August. Here’s a look at what you’ll do, what the experience feels like, and who it’s perfect for.

What is Family Camp?

Family Camp 2026 runs from August 9 through August 13. For those five days, our full 100-plus acre property on Hunter Lake is open to families with children of all ages. You’ll stay in the same cozy cabins our summer campers use and eat together in the dining hall. You’ll also have access to all the great activities, including the waterfront, the horses, the arts facilities, the sports fields, and the trails.

The main difference from our regular girls' camp is that parents are right there participating in the fun. This isn’t a drop-off program. You’re at camp with your kids, experiencing everything together, which is a really special way for a family to connect.

What do you do all day?

Family Camp is all about getting active. You can go kayaking and canoeing on Hunter Lake, head out for a swim, or try horseback riding. There’s also archery, arts and crafts, and fun campfire programs in the evenings. You’ll enjoy meals together in the dining lodge and find a nice balance of structured activities and free time.

A lot of families tell us that this is the first time in years they’ve had five days in a row with no screens, no big commitments, and nothing to do except enjoy each other’s company in a beautiful place. That’s a pretty big deal in today’s busy world.

Who is Family Camp for?

We welcome families with kids of any age! Children under 5 can attend for free, while kids ages 5 to 14 are $450. For adults, the cost is $550. We’ve built the programming to work for everyone. A six-year-old and a fourteen-year-old will both find things they love to do, and parents can join in on all of it.

It’s also a fantastic fit for families who have a daughter thinking about joining our summer camp later on. Spending five days here lets her see the space, meet some of the counselors, and try out the activities for herself. Many families come for this reason and leave with a daughter who’s excited to sign up for the following summer.

What’s the vibe like?

The atmosphere is relaxed and full of life. It’s important to remember that this isn't a luxury resort. The cabins are classic camp cabins and the dining hall serves good, hearty camp food rather than restaurant fare. Showers and toilets are in shared showerhouse buildings, and the schedule has a bit of structure to it. If you’re looking for a spa weekend, this might not be the spot for you.

However, if you’re looking for five days in the Northwoods with your kids, doing things you don’t usually get to do at home, and without having to pitch a tent, then you’re in the right place. You’ll eat meals with other families and watch your kids try new things while you’re right there to cheer them on.

How does it connect to Girls Camp?

The connection between the two is very intentional. Our summer sessions for girls run through June and July, and Family Camp follows right after in early August. This means families who send their daughters to summer camp can often extend their experience by returning for Family Camp.

It is also worth noting that our Mother-Daughter Weekend follows immediately after Family Camp, running from August 14 through August 16, 2026. Some families even decide to do both!

How to register

Family Camp 2026 takes place August 9 through August 13. Pricing is $550 per adult, $450 per child ages 5 to 14, and free for children under 5. Registration is first-come, first-served, so it’s a good idea to reach out soon. You can email us at info@wehakeecampforgirls.com or call 608-787-8304 to get started.

What families say afterward

When families talk about their time here, they don’t always focus on a specific activity. Usually, they talk about the pace of life. They love having five days where nobody has to worry about a commute, a schedule, or figuring out what’s for dinner. It’s just the lake, the trails, and the people you love. Most families don't realize how much they need that break until they’re actually here enjoying it.
