The facilities at Camp WeHaKee are exceptional! And, they are consistently well maintained for each camper's comfort and safety.
Camp WeHaKee is located on a site rich in history and legend. The location was originally a logging camp. As a result, it is home to a large concentration of beautiful tall, virgin white pine. Beginning in the early 1920's, legendary Notre Dame football coach, Knute Rockne operated a football camp here for a number of decades. It later became a Jewish girls camp named Camp Chicagami. In the late 1950's, the St. Louis Hawks (now the NBA Atlanta Hawks) ran a basketball camp at this location. And in 1963, then WeHaKee Director, Sr. Marie Karen Hawkinson moved Camp WeHaKee from its location in Marinette, Wisconsin (on the waters of Green Bay) to this current site on the shores of Hunter Lake.

some of the highlights of our camp!
CABINS ~ Our cabins are fully enclosed and spacious structures with space for 8 campers and 2 counselors. They are well lit and have excellent ventilation with a ceiling fan in each one. They have all been remodelled with new flooring, walls, windows, porches, roofs and siding within the past ten years.
SHOWERHOUSES ~ Our showerhouses are equipped with individual shower stalls (including a changing area) for each shower - you can shower and change in complete privacy! Each showerhouse is either new or has been remodelled within the past 10 years with pine panelling and skylights giving them a warm and welcoming atmosphere. And, they are professionally cleaned daily!
DINING LODGE ~ Built by Knute Rockne in the 1920's, the dining lodge (known as Sinsinawa Lodge) is a beautiful log hewn building that has been well maintained and preserved. The kitchen facilities have been completely renovated to provide professional food preparation and service. With an array of lakeside windows it provides a gorgeous setting overlooking Hunter Lake.
LAUERWOOD LODGE ~ Another structure built by Knute Rockne, Lauerwood is a beautiful log hewn structure used as a multipurpose facility by our campers. With its hardwood floors and stage area, it is perfect for drama, dance, gymnastics as well as performnces and all-camp dances.
SWIMMING POOL ~ Although our waterfront on Hunter Lake provides for fun & comfortable swimming activities, our heated pool provides space for competitive, synchronized or recreational swimming.
HORSEBACK RIDING FACILITIES ~ Campers begin in the barn, where they can groom and tack each horse safely in large stalls. From there they can head either to our riding ring or to our more than 100 acres of private trails.
COURT SPORTS ~ We have several court sport options including tennis (with two professional surface, fenced tennis courts), volleyball, basketball and badminton.
POTTERY & ARTS ~ Our pottery and arts facility has just been renovated, making it even easier to be creative in multiple ways including pottery & ceramics, drawing, painting, calligraphy, and much more! New windows, doors and siding have been installed along with new lighting and more efficient storage to make even more room for all sorts of creativity!
CHAPEL ~ One of the first structures built after Camp WeHaKee moved to this wonderful setting, the Chapel provides space for Evening Prayer, weekly Mass as well as a beautiful space for prayerful reflection and solitude.
FIRE CIRCLES ~ There are four stone-lined fire circles found at our camp. For Welcome Fires and Council Fires, we take the Chicagami Trail to the Teepee Fire Circle and share our final fire together at the end of each session at our waterfront fire ring. 'The Point' provides another fire ring where your cabin group may spend a night enjoying s'mores, banana boats and songs around the fire!
